NOW OPEN FOR BUSINESS ON YOUR STREET……..SHOP FRONT GRANT SCHEME…

The Shop Front Grant Scheme was launched by Deputy Mayor Eamonn Tuffy in the Lucan Spa Hotel on Wednesday 2nd April and by Mayor Dermot Looney on Thursday 3rd April in the Maldron Hotel, Tallaght. A number of local retailers and interested parties attended the events. The level of interest shown to date for the Shop Front Grant Scheme has been very positive, with over 1,000 views of our facebook page about the grant.

Launching the initiative at the Lucan event, the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Eamon Tuffy indicated significant benefits could be availed of under the scheme, he said

“A high quality shop front can make an area more attractive to local residents and visitors and result in a higher number of shopping visits. A series of neglected shop fronts on a street can have the opposite effect and create a negative image or reputation for a village. We want the public streets of our County to have a positive image.”

Speaking at the event, Mayor Dermot Looney highlighted the benefits that can arise when the Council and business people together take a proactive role in improving their local area, he commented“While the Council is committed to a series of actions in the public street involving activities such as - street cleaning, road maintenance, footpath improvements, signage etc, the Council also wants to support those local retailers who wish to play their part and take measures to improve the public face of their business – the shop front”

The scheme is intended to improve the appearance of independently owned shops fronting public streets and in turn make the streetscape more attractive to shoppers and visitors alike. There are a variety of possible improvements covered under the grants scheme ranging from improvements to individual shop fronts or a parade of shops. Grants of €800 up to €4,000 are available and further details can be found at www.sdcc.ie. Applications for this grant scheme will be accepted up to 30th May 2014.

In addition South Dublin County Council has also approved a fund of €20,000 for the commencement of a series of Retail Support Forums throughout the county. The aim of these forums is to meet with retailers to gain a better understanding of the issues facing businesses and encourage networking on a range of issues specific to the retail sector. It is intended to hold 16 of these forums over the summer months.
