Mayor encourages Council staff to step up to the challenge

The National Transport Authority’s 10th annual walking challenge will take place from Monday 4th of September to Sunday 1st of October 2017 and newly elected Mayor of South Dublin County Council Cllr. Paul Gogarty has challenged staff in South Dublin County Council to get walking.

Who can walk the furthest …Planners? Architects? Engineers? Admin? Porters? Could it be Library or General Services staff……..who knows!! The Step Challenge creates a bit of ‘healthy’ competition within organisations, and staff in South Dublin County Council have enrolled in the programme once again this year.

Mayor Gogarty said “During my acceptance speech at the Council’s Annual meeting in June this year, I set out a number of themes I wish to pursue during my term as Mayor. Highlighting health initiatives along with positive mental and physical wellbeing were just some of those themes. That’s why I’m delighted to promote this healthy workforce initiative for both Council staff and staff in other organisations countywide, which also promotes sustainable transport options for workers. I look forward to taking the step challenge myself to see how many kilometres a busy Mayor clocks up in a week.”

The Step Challenge is a fun, free walking challenge where teams of 3-6 people aim to increase their daily step counts, to have fun and to win prizes! The initiative is run by the National Transport Authority.
