South Dublin County Council hosts a one-day spatial planning themed conference in Tallaght Stadium to coincide with National Planning Week.
On Thursday 9th November 2017, Ms. Laura Leonard, Director of Service at South Dublin County Council, will officially open a spatial planning themed conference at Tallaght Stadium. The one-day conference has been organised in partnership with Planning Week and the Irish Planning Institute. Planning Week 2017 is a new initiative organised by the Irish Planning Institute taking place from 6th - 10th November 2017. Planning Week provides an opportunity to explore planning and the planning profession through events, activities and planning visits. It takes place in parallel with World Town Planning Day on Wednesday 8th November.
To coincide with Planning Week, the Council is hosting a one-day conference, which will examine planning in Ireland today, from the perspectives of innovation and strategy, collaboration and the customer. The various speakers on the day will also address the spatial planning experiences of South Dublin County Council.
Daniel McLoughlin, Chief Executive of South Dublin County Council has stated, ‘Planning is at the heart of the services offered by South Dublin County Council and it is key in achieving the corporate mission of the Council, which is to make our County the best possible place in which to live, work and do business. Through the implementation of the County Development Plan 2016-2022 and other local plans and strategies, the Council is confident that it can play its part in addressing the issues facing the Dublin Region today, including addressing the demand for housing, increasing economic competitiveness and protecting and enhancing the natural environment. This conference allows the Council to showcase its experiences in these areas to date.’
With regard to Planning Week and the one-day conference, Brian Keaney, Senior Planner at South Dublin County Council has stated, ‘South Dublin County Council has an exemplar track record in spatial planning and this is reflected in the number of national planning prizes awarded to the organisation. We are delighted to host this conference as part of Planning Week and I wish to thank the range of speakers who will make valuable contributions on the day.
